You heard right this is no April fools! The world famous Dew Tour has there sights set on Ocean City, MD for its new host city. As the only beach venue in the Tour’s history, Ocean City provides a unique setting for the East Coast leg, and will feature several new attributes exclusive to this event, including a skateboard bowl contest and a surf competition. The event will also include skate and BMX vert and BMX park, as well as a live concert staged on the beach. BMX rider Dave Mirra, the most decorated X Games athlete in history with 23 medals, and skateboarder Bucky Lasek — a three-time Dew Cup chamion and four-time X Games gold medalist — will be among the roster of professional extreme sports athletes in attendance. In addition to its competitions, the event will also include a live music concert on the beach, and a Festival Village where sponsors will have interactive booths and athletes will sign autographs. The event will be broadcast nationally on NBC and USA. After its stop in Ocean City, the tour will continue on to Portland, Ore. in August and Salt Lake City in September before wrapping up in Las Vegas in October.
The Dew Tour consists of five major, multi-sport events spanning across the country, with a cumulative points system, more than $2 million in competitive purse, and a bonus pool at year-end based on overall tour standings. The Tour features skateboarding (street and vert) and BMX (park, vert and dirt) along with skateboard bowl, surf and freestyle motocross. At season’s end, the overall points leaders in the five disciplines will be crowned year-end champions and awarded the prestigious Dew Cup. The Dew Tour is broadcast live on NBC Sports with additional competition and lifestyle broadcasts on MTV, MTV2 and USA.
